LeaseCompare.com Names Top 10 Diesel Units
CINCINNATI — Automobile Consumer Services recently unveiled the top 10 diesel-vehicle leases on LeaseCompare.com, and discovered that all of them were models from German manufacturers.
Among the 10 units the site listed, three were made by Volkswagen and another three were from Mercedes-Benz. Two vehicles apiece from Audi and BMW appeared on this list, too.
Site officials cited a J.D. Power and Associates survey about the growing interest in diesel vehicles. The survey showed that 10 percent of all vehicles sold in the United States by 2015 would be diesel units. That's a jump from the current level of about 3 percent.
"Not your father's diesel car from yesteryears, today's generation of clean diesel cars are fuel-efficient, quiet, low emission, and have the performance that makes them fun to drive," noted Tarry Shebesta, president of ACS which operates LeaseCompare.com.
Shebesta also highlighted that one of the vehicles on this list, the Audi A3, recently won the 2010 Green Car of the Year at the Los Angeles Auto Show.
Furthermore, LeaseCompare.com mentioned the possibility of tax credits when consumers consider a diesel vehicle. For example, officials said BMW promotes a $4,500 "eco-credit" on both of its diesel models through March 1.
"Just like with hybrid vehicles, diesel technology is always changing," Shebesta noted.
"This makes leasing them a smart financial decision since owning out-dated technology can lead to poor resale values," Shebesta added.
