AutoNation is taking its micro lease pilot program online.

The auto retail giant announced the launch of AutoNation Mobility, a fully digital shopping experience offering the new-vehicle micro lease model, which provides customers short-term access to vehicles without the need to purchase. The platform can be found at autonationmobility.com.

The micro lease program is currently available only in Los Angeles, Northern California and South Florida, the markets in which it was initially launched earlier this year in AutoNation stores.

AutoNation said the micro lease model gives customers the flexibility to drive a different vehicle every six to 12 months, depending on the selected commitment duration, without the responsibility of owning or long-term financing.

Customers can select a new vehicle online on the AutoNation Mobility platform and complete their transaction online. The selection includes sedans, SUVs, trucks and luxury cars from various brands.

“AutoNation Mobility puts customers firmly in the driver’s seat, offering a fully digital shopping experience and the freedom to drive away in the vehicle that suits their needs at any given time, without the commitment to ownership,” AutoNation Mobility vice president Ivan Mihov said.

“We’re always seeking to establish innovative transportation solutions that meet the evolving needs of today’s customers, and we believe Mobility has the potential to reshape and revolutionize how people choose what they drive and how long they drive it.”

AutoNation Mobility plans to include maintenance and roadside assistance with its micro leases, as well as options to extend the lease or buy the vehicle at the end of the term.

The platform offers curated collections called “playlists”, designed to give customers “an intuitive digital experience” with the ability to select and configure vehicles. AutoNation said the playlists are tailored to a range of consumer personalities and lifestyles, and said there is also an option to find exact vehicle makes and models.

The company said it will showcase AutoNation Mobility during this week’s LA Auto Show at the Los Angeles Convention Center.
