Dealership M&A: Koons store changes hands again; Knudtsen adds location in Spokane
A recently sold dealership has changed hands once more.
Koons Wilmington Lexus in Wilmington, Del., has been acquired by Maryland-based MileOne Autogroup, which purchased the store from Asbury Automotive Group, according to the Presidio Group, which represented the seller in the transaction.
It was the second sale of the store in three months. Asbury took ownership in December as part of its massive $1.2 billion deal to acquire Jim Koons Automotive Companies.
The transaction, which was finalized Monday, included Koons Wilmington Lexus and its real estate. Asbury had acquired the Lexus store in December as part of its acquisition of the larger Jim Koons Automotive Companies.
The dealership is the first in Wilmington and just the second Lexus dealership for MileOne, which operates 68 locations in the Mid-Atlantic region.
“We are thrilled to welcome another Lexus store to the MileOne network,” MileOne vice president Michael Fader said. “When this location became available, we knew immediately it would be a terrific addition to our portfolio.”
Knudtsen begins expansion with Foothills Lincoln Mazda
Eve Knudtsen, president and owner of Knudtsen Chevrolet in Post Falls, Idaho, has acquired Foothills Lincoln Mazda in Spokane, Wash., from Rick Rielly and Ray Kish, according to Tim Wild of the Tim Lamb Group, which brokered the deal.
The dealership, which has been rebranded as Knudtsen Foothills Mazda and Knudtsen Foothills Lincoln, was founded by Kish in 1981. Rielly joined the business as general manager 10 years later and eventually purchased a majority stake.
Kish and Rielly have worked with more than 40 charitable organizations and founded a local Special Olympics program as well as a Crisis Center and a Ronald McDonald House in Spokane. They also partnered with former NFL quarterback Mark Rypien to build the Children’s Emergency Department at Providence Sacred Heart Hospital.
Kish said the new owners are a good fit for the dealership and the community.
“It’s keeping with the family dynamic and values that a family-owned business understands,” he said. “I have always said that the best way to get ahead is to help others get ahead and be that best they can be.”
Knudtsen Chevrolet has in business for 85 years, since Eve Knudtsen’s father Clifford opened it in 1939. The addition of the Foothills stores 26 miles away allows Knudtsen and her daughter and executive manager Lauren Benedict to expand the operation.
“We are excited to expand our presence in the communities surrounding the Foothills dealerships, just like we’ve done at Knudtsen Chevrolet,” Knudtsen said. “Our family is very much involved in community initiatives, and we are happy to build on the legacy that Rick and Ray have established.”
